Pereira 3D is thrilled to introduce the Pereira Custom BBb Contrabass Clarinet. This instrument provides a deep, powerful, and responsive low voice to the long lineup of instruments. The Pereira Custom Contrabass Clarinet features:
- A synthetic body machined via CNC, featuring extremely durable joints and a resonant, responsive sound
- A carbon fiber banded middle socket ring for even further durability while being lightweight
- The body is hand-finished and voiced after machining, using bore and tone hole reamers to sound, tune, and respond at professional standards
- Outfitted with leather pads (and cork pads for the register vents)
- The keywork and posts feature thicker silver plating, so the keys are extremely durable and not at all pliable
- Range to low Eb
This instrument's bore design is based on the Leblanc contrabass clarinets, with some voicing enhancements. Tuning is adjusted from the neck slide (the U-bend by the mouthpiece socket). The register key mechanism features three separate pads depending on the range: a pad designated for throat Bb, a pad for the lower clarion register (B-D#), and a pad on the "neck" for the remainder of the clarion and above (E and up). A middle joint locking mechanism allows for precise alignment between the upper and lower joints every time the instrument is put together.
This instrument is designed to be used while seated on a stool. The instrument rests on the fixed rubber ball support located on the bottom of the bell. A higher stool that's adjustable in height is preferred, but this instrument can also be supported using a harness or neck strap. The neck strap/harness loop is located at the top of the lower joint on the back of the instrument.
The case is extremely compact and light for such a large instrument. It features a hard-shell ABS case with four locking points, two carrying straps on different parts of the case, and rolling wheels for more comfortable transport. However, the instrument is fairly comfortable to carry by the handles for a contrabass!
Each contrabass clarinet comes with a mouthpiece/ligature/cap set. The provided mouthpiece works with both contrabass clarinet reeds and baritone saxophone reeds (the play-test video on this listing was played with a Vandoren 2.5 baritone saxophone reed). All Pereira Custom Clarinets come with a 2-year shop warranty.
